Women's Basketball - Wed, Nov. 1, 2006
Olathe, Kan. - With its season-opening exhibition against NCAA Division I foe Northern Illinois University set for Monday, November 6, the Saint Xavier University women's basketball program learned it had received a No. 17 ranking when the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released its Preseason Women's Basketball Division I Top 25 Ranking Wednesday. The Cougars return all five starters on a team that had a 24-9 overall record, finished first in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) with a 10-2 mark, and earned its first-ever berth in the "Sweet 16" of the 2006 NAIA National Tournament.

SXU faces a grueling non-conference slate this season with two NCAA Division I opponents to open the season in Northern Illinois University and University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) as well as some match-ups against the NAIA's best, including two-time defending national champion and No. 1 ranked Union University (Tenn.) at home (Dec. 2), No. 7 Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) in the Virgin Islands (Dec. 19), and No. 12 Point Loma Nazarene University (Calif.) at home (Nov. 11).

"We take pride in the fact that this is the highest preseason ranking for our team in the seven-year history of the program," said Hallberg. "We have the opportunity early in our schedule this season to play some of the NAIA's top ranked teams and are excited about our chances of moving up even further."

Saint Xavier opens its 2006-07 campaign on Monday, November 6, with an exhibition game against Northern Illinois University at the NIU Convocation Center in DeKalb, Ill. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
