Joliet, Ill. - With its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament semifinals match-up against No. 1 seed and No. 12 ranked Judson College (Ill.) just a few hours away, the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team learned it had five players named to the 2006 All-CCAC Men's Soccer Team Wednesday morning. Senior defender Fabian Neprjachin (Halle, Germany/Bellevue University), senior midfielder Almir Hot (Belgrade, Serbia/Lindenwood University) and freshman forward Zach Kekelik (Merrillville, Ind./Crown Point) received first team honors, while sophomore midfielder Agustin Herrera (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) and freshman defender Seamus Ryan (Alsip, Ill./Mount Carmel) garnered honorable mention recognition. Ryan also was named the 2006 CCAC Men's Soccer Freshman of the Year.
Hot was SXU's leading point scorer this season finishing with nine goals and eight assists for 26 total points over 16 games. Kekelik had a huge debut season with the Cougars leading the team with 10 goals and tacking on two assists to finish second in points scored (22) playing in all 19 games. In his final season at Saint Xavier, Neprjachin earned a spot on the All-CCAC First Team for the first time in his career. He played in 18 of SXU's first 19 games this season and recorded two assists.
After earning CCAC Freshman of the Year and honorable mention recognition in 2005, Herrera continued his impressive collegiate career with a midfield spot on this season's All-CCAC Honorable Mention Team. Herrera finished third on the team in goals scored (7) and total points (19) playing in 16 games this season. Ryan was a huge addition to the Cougar defense this fall playing in all 19 games and posting three assists. He helped lead a defense that allowed 1.63 goals per game. Saint Xavier (11-8 overall/5-4 CCAC) takes the No. 5 seed into today's game against No. 1 seed Judson College in the semifinals of the 2006 CCAC Men's Soccer Tournament. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. in Elgin, Ill.
