CHICAGO - Behind a goal and two assists by NAIA Women's Soccer Player of the Week Lissa Coby (Lake Villa, Ill./Grant Community), the No. 10 ranked Saint Xavier University women's soccer team picked up a big 3-0 semifinals victory over Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in the 2006 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament Wednesday at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. The No. 2 seeded Cougars (16-3 overall/7-2 CCAC) advance to Saturday's championship where they will either head to No. 1 seed Robert Morris College (Ill.) or host No. 5 seed Trinity International University (Ill.) depending on the outcome of today's match-up.
Coby scored the first goal of the game for SXU in the 17th minute off an assist from junior midfielder Natalie Liakopoulos (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn). The Cougars struck again in the first half when senior forward Angie Holmes (Shorewood, Ill./Providence Catholic) found the back of the net just over 11 minutes later on assists from junior midfielder Aleks Sudar (Omaha, Neb./Bryan) and Coby, respectively. Sophomore midfielder Sarah Scigalski (Alsip, Ill./Mother McAuley) scored the final goal of the game just nine minutes into the second half on another assist from Coby. Freshman Danielle Wagner (Worth, Ill./University of Illinois) got the start in goal and logged her seventh career shutout with two saves.
Saint Xavier (16-3 overall/7-2 CCAC) heads to the 2006 CCAC championship game to face either Robert Morris or Trinity International on Saturday, October 28. SXU would need TIU to upset Robert Morris in order to host the championship game Saturday at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. Game time has yet to be determined.
