Bourbonnais, Ill. - Behind a goal in the 18th minute by junior midfielder Matt Prunckle (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice), the No. 5 seeded Saint Xavier University men's soccer team upset No. 4 seed Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.), 1-0, Saturday in first-round action of the 2006 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Soccer Tournament in Bourbonnais, Ill. With the win, the Cougars (11-8 overall/5-4 CCAC) advance to the semifinals and will face No. 1 seed and No. 12 ranked Judson College (Ill.) at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1, in Elgin, Ill.
Freshman Ian Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) kept up his hot play in goal finishing with his third straight shutout and six saves. Sophomore defender Paul Green (El Paso, Texas/Captain John L. Chapin) provided the assist on Prunckle's goal. Olivet Nazarene had six shots on goal Saturday compared to just two by Saint Xavier. It was the fifth straight victory for SXU, its longest win streak of the season.
The Cougars (11-8 overall/5-4 CCAC) head to Elgin, Ill., on Wednesday to take on No. 1 seed Judson College (Ill.) in the CCAC semifinals. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
