CHICAGO - Behind a goal apiece from senior forward Paul Herbst (Cary, Ill./McHenry Co. CC) and freshman midfielder Agustin Herrera (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom), the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team picked up a 2-1 non-conference win over visiting Davenport University (Mich.) Thursday at SXU stadium in Chicago. With the win, the Cougars improve to 3-1 overall on the season.
SXU scored both of its goals in the first half of Thursday's game. Herbst recorded the game's first goal in the 24th minute of play when senior forward Chris Bartley (Park Forest, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) found Herbst open on a pass cutting towards the goal. In the 39th minute, the Cougars struck again to take a 2-0 lead when Herrera found the back of the net off an assist from sophomore midfielder Matt Prunckle (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice).

However, the Panthers could not score again in the final seconds to send the game to overtime. Freshman goalkeeper Chris Coccaro (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) tallied three saves for the Cougars in Thursday's victory. SXU outshot the Panthers, 11-5, in the game.
