CHICAGO - Seamus Ryan, a senior defender and team captain at Mount Carmel High School in Chicago, has signed a letter of intent to continue both his athletics and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar men's soccer program. The Alsip, Ill., native is expected to see time at the defender or midfielder positions next fall at SXU.
Ryan is the son of Seamus and Ann Ryan of Alsip. He was coached by Adrian Calleros during his prep career at Mount Carmel. Saint Xavier University men's soccer coach Ed Vucinic feels that Ryan possesses the right blend of skills needed to excel as a defender at the collegiate level.
"Seamus was one of our high-priority recruits so his decision to continue his education and playing career at Saint Xavier is obviously another great step for the program," said Vucinic. "He possesses a great combination of talent, speed, quickness, vision, and grit. I expect Seamus to step right in and add some bite to our defense, plus make us a dangerous attacking team out of the back."
