CHICAGO - A goal in the 89th minute by freshman forward Zach Kekelik (Merrillville, Ind./Crown Point) lifted the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team to a thrilling 3-2 road victory over Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Tuesday night in Chicago. Kekelik received a head ball assist from junior forward Alex Duncan (Orland Park, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) in the final minute of regulation to break the 2-2 tie and improve the Cougars' record to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

SXU took the early lead with a goal by junior defender Brett Falloon (Orland Park, Ill./Augustana College) in the game's third minute. Falloon was able to beat the IIT goalie on the right side and found the back of the net from six yards out off an assist from sophomore midfielder Agustin Herrera (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom). The Scarlet Hawks tied things up, 1-1, in the 21st minute of play on a goal from junior midfielder Steven Booher. IIT struck again just a minute before halftime and took a 2-1 lead into the break on a goal by sophomore midfielder Andrew Lichaj.

However, the second half was all Saint Xavier as senior midfielder Almir Hot (Belgrade, Serbia/Lindenwood University) tied the game, 2-2, in the 79th minute on a header off a corner kick served up by senior midfielder Fabian Neprjachin (Halle, Germany/Bellevue University). Just 10 minutes later, the Cougars were able to win in dramatic fashion when Kekelik secured the game-winning goal. Freshman Ian Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) got the start in goal for SXU and finished with three saves.

Saint Xavier (5-5 overall, 2-2 CCAC) continues its conference slate on Saturday, October 7, with a tough home game against No. 6 ranked Judson College (Ill.). Game time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
