CHICAGO - Sophomore forward Sinisa Vidakovic (Loves Park, Ill./Rockford College) recorded both the game-tying and game-winning goals as the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team picked up a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Robert Morris College (Ill.) Saturday at SXU Stadium in Chicago. With the win, the Cougars improve to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in league play.
Freshman midfielder Melchor Castro (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) kicked off the scoring for Saint Xavier in the 10th minute of play with a header off a cross pass from the right side by senior midfielder Marco Meier (Bariloche, Argentina/Bellevue University). After trailing 1-0 at halftime, Robert Morris scored two goals within 14 minutes of each other in the 60th and 74th minutes, respectively, to take a 2-1 lead.
With under six minutes remaining in regulation, Vidakovic scored the game-tying goal on a diving header with freshman midfielder Agustin Herrera (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) providing the assist. In the second minute of the overtime period (92nd minute), Vidakovic used his head again to record the gamewinner off a pass from Meier. Freshman goalkeeper James Kline (Canton, Ohio/Perry) finished with six saves for the Cougars. SXU outshot Robert Morris, 11-7, in the game.
Saint Xavier (7-4 overall/3-2 CCAC) takes on CCAC foe Trinity Christian College (Ill.) on Wednesday, October 5, on the road in Palos Heights, Ill. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
