Men's Soccer - Wed, Aug. 18, 2004
Olathe, Kan. -- First-year head coach Ed Vucinic and the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team earned a spot in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) top 25 when the league office released its 2004 Men's Soccer Preseason Ratings Tuesday. The Cougars garnered the No. 24 slot after finishing the 2003 season unranked in the final postseason poll. "This is a testament to what Henry Barsch (former SXU head coach) accomplished in his two years with this program," said Vucinic. "The team had a great run in the postseason last year and is excited about what this season might bring. Hopefully, we can carry some of the momentum from 2003 into the fall."
Last season, the Cougars finished with an overall record of 13-8-4 and won the 2003 CCAC Tournament in addition to reaching the finals of the NAIA Region VII Tournament.
SXU will open its 2004 season on Friday, August 27, at 7 p.m. against No. 8 Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.) in Columbia, Ky.
