CHICAGO - Behind 20 points from senior guard Candis Jackson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young), the No. 3 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team picked up a 76-65 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) road victory over Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Tuesday night in Chicago. The win improves the Cougars' overall record to 22-2 and 7-1 in conference play.
Two other SXU players scored in double figures in Tuesday's victory with senior guard Angie Brown (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) recording 12 points and freshman forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) chipping in 10. Senior guard Dani Engleman (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) led the Cougars on the boards with eight rebounds, while Hannemann pulled down seven rebounds. SXU led 43-35 at halftime and shot 37 percent (30-for-80) from the field in the game. The defense recorded 13 steals and helped force 22 IIT turnovers.
Saint Xavier (22-2 overall/7-1 CCAC) returns home to take on conference foe Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.) on Thursday, February 8. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
