Joliet, Ill. - Junior first baseman and co-captain Jory Bodi (Richmond, Ill./Richmond-Burton) finished the two-day University of St. Francis (Ill.) Softball Tournament hitting 6-for-12 with a home run, four runs scored, and nine RBI to help lead No. 18 ranked Saint Xavier University to four straight victories at the Inwood Softball Complex in Joliet, Ill. The Cougars (23-9 overall/10-2 CCAC) picked up two wins on Friday defeating Spring Arbor University (Mich.), 4-3, and then beating Indiana Wesleyan University, 11-6. On Saturday, SXU tacked on two more wins at the tourney picking up a 19-0 victory over Mount Mary College (Wisc.) before beating Spring Arbor again, 7-0.

In the first game against Spring Arbor, junior centerfielder Marie Barker (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic) led Saint Xavier at the plate going 3-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI. A two-RBI single in the bottom of the third inning by junior shortstop Samantha Lovato (Oak Forest, Ill./Eisenhower) put SXU ahead, 2-0. Barker added a RBI single in the sixth inning to help build a 3-0 advantage. However, Spring Arbor tied the game with three runs in the top of the seventh and the Cougars had to score the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI single by senior second baseman Colleen Kilduff (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg). Sophomore pitcher Ashley Shearer (Beecher, Ill./Beecher) got the win on the mound throwing all seven innings and allowing nine hits, three runs, and a walk with 10 strikeouts.

Friday's second game saw SXU put up eight runs in the top of the fifth inning to build an 8-0 lead behind back-to-back two-RBI hits from Kilduff and Bodi, respectively. Junior catcher Lindsey Hall (Elgin, Ill./Larkin) also recorded a two-run homer later in the same inning. Indiana Wesleyan scored its six runs over the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, but the Cougars tacked on three more runs over the game's final two innings to keep their lead safe. Senior righthander Jessica Wilson (Munster, Ind./Munster) earned the win throwing seven innings and giving up 10 hits, six runs (three earned), and a walk with four strikeouts.

In its Saturday morning game against Mount Mary, Saint Xavier jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first inning and cruised the rest of the way. Bodi finished the game 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored, and three RBI. Senior first baseman Megan Stluka (Beecher, Ill./Beecher) also had a nice game at the plate going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI, while sophomore left fielder Laurie Felton (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn) recorded her first career grand slam in the second inning for SXU. Sophomore rightie Nicolle Bartels (Chicago, Ill./Marian Catholic) logged the win pitching three innings and allowing no hits, no runs, and no walks with five strikeouts.

Saint Xavier's final game on Saturday was a rematch of Friday's game against Spring Arbor. The Cougars were able to keep this game from being as close as the first one scoring five of their seven runs in the first four innings en route to the 7-0 victory. Kilduff finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBI, while junior right fielder Nicole Barker (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic) went 3-for-3 with four runs scored. Bodi was also tough in the final game batting 3-for-4 with three RBI. Wilson tacked on another weekend win throwing all seven innings and allowing just one hit, no runs, and no walks with 11 strikeouts.

The Cougars (23-9 overall/10-2 CCAC) return to Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play on Tuesday, April 11, with a doubleheader against rival University of St. Francis (Ill.). Start time for game one is scheduled for 3 p.m. at SXU Softball Field in Chicago.
