CHICAGO -- Junior forward and team co-captain Chris Bartley (Park Forest, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) scored the game-winning goal to lead the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Illinois Institute of Technology, 2-1, Wednesday at Stuart Field in Chicago. The win improves the Cougars to 6-2-1 overall and 2-0 in league play. IIT took the early lead in the game when Victor Pano found the back of the net in the eighth minute of the game to put the Scarlet Hawks ahead, 1-0. However, the SXU offense responded in the second half when junior midfielder Paul Herbst (Cary, Ill./McHenry CC) scored a goal off an assist from senior defender and team co-captain Chad Mozden (Palos Heights, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) in the 51st minute. Bartley then put the game away with his unassisted goal with 25 minutes remaining in regulation. Senior goalkeeper Enrique Orejel (Chicago, Ill./Curie) finished the game with 10 saves.
The Cougars continue their CCAC road trip on Tuesday, September 28, with a game against Robert Morris College in Springfield, Ill. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
