Romeoville, Ill. - Despite a team-best 12 kills by junior outside hitter Chelsey Guay (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba), the Saint Xavier University volleyball team could not extend its win steak to 10 games Wednesday falling to NCAA Division II Lewis University (Ill.) at Neil Carey Arena in Romeoville, Ill. The Cougars (18-11 overall) got off to a good start winning the first game of the match 30-27, but dropped the next three games 20-30, 24-30, 17-30.

Senior outside hitter Jessica Synowiecki (Oak Lawn, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) and senior middle blocker Tara Breshock (Lansing, Ill./TF-South) each contributed nine kills in Wednesday's match, while senior setter Traci Looby (Orland Hills, Ill./Andrew) chipped in 40 set assists and three service aces. Defensively, Looby and senior libero Emily Soto (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Junior College) both tallied a team-high 13 digs, while Breshock and Guay recorded three total blocks apiece (one solo, two assisted).

Saint Xavier (18-11 overall, 6-1 CCAC) makes a trip down to Joliet, Ill., this weekend to participate in the University of St. Francis (Ill.) Big Guns Classic beginning Friday, October 19. The Cougars open with a 2 p.m. match Friday against University of Illinois-Springfield.
