Grand Rapids, Mich. - Senior forwards Paul Herbst (Cary, Ill./McHenry Co. CC) and Chris Bartley (Park Forest, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) combined for two first-half goals to help lead the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team to a 3-0 non-conference road win over Aquinas College (Mich.) Sunday in Grand Rapids, Mich. With the win, the Cougars improve to 5-2 overall this season. Herbst provided SXU's first goal of the game off an assist from senior midfielder Marek Podczerwinski (Summit, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) in the ninth minute of regulation. Bartley put the Cougars ahead, 2-0, just over nine minutes later with an impressive shot from the right corner on a pass from senior defender Anthony Cappello (Cary, Ill./McHenry Co. CC). With a 2-0 lead at halftime, Saint Xavier added some insurance in the 64th minute of play when freshman midfielder Agustin Herrera (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) found the back of the net with freshman defender Johnny Ruggles (Georgetown, Fla./Crescent City) providing the assist. Freshman goalkeeper James Kline (Canton, Ohio/Perry) finished with four saves in the game helping SXU to its second straight shutout win. Saint Xavier (5-2 overall/1-0 CCAC) returns to its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) slate on Wednesday, September 21, to face rival University of St. Francis (Ill.) at SXU Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
