CHICAGO - A two-run, first-inning home run by senior second baseman Colleen Kilduff (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) helped spark a 9-1 game two win in five innings as the No. 20 ranked Saint Xavier University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Aquinas College (Mich.) Saturday on a cold afternoon at the SXU Softball Field in Chicago. The Cougars (11-7 overall/4-0 CCAC) dropped a heartbreaker in game one falling, 8-5, in a nine-inning, three-hour affair, but bounced back from the loss with the eight-run victory to shorten the nightcap.

In game one, SXU scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning behind a two-RBI double to right-center by junior shortstop Samantha Lovato (Oak Forest, Ill./Eisenhower). However, Aquinas tied the game, 3-3, with two runs in the top of the third inning. A RBI double by junior catcher Lindsey Hall (Elgin, Ill./Larkin) in the sixth inning gave Saint Xavier back the lead, 4-3, but Aquinas was able to tie the game again in the seventh to send it into extra frames. In the top of the ninth inning, Aquinas belted six hits en route to a four-run inning and the Cougars responded by loading the bases with no outs. However, SXU managed only one run in the bottom of the ninth before recording its final out.

In the nightcap, Kilduff's homer set the pace for the rest of the game as Saint Xavier scored in all five innings of the game to pick up the 9-1 victory. Kilduff finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI, while Hall went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. Senior righthander Jessica Wilson (Munster, Ind./Munster) got the game two win on the mound pitching all five innings and allowing five hits, an earned run, and no walks with six strikeouts.

The Cougars (11-7 overall/4-0 CCAC) return to their conference schedule with a home doubleheader against CCAC foe Purdue University-North Central (Ind.) on Tuesday, March 28. Start time for the twin bill is 3 p.m. at SXU Softball Field.
