Johnson City, Tenn. - On March 8, Saint Xavier University sophomore Steven Bugarin (Chicago, Ill./Washington) finished No. 11 in his qualifying heat in the 3000-meter run at the NAIA National Championships in Johnson City, Tennessee, with a time of 9:21. This time was not sufficient to qualify him for the finals. This marked the first-ever National Championship appearance for a Cougar runner.
"Steven ran an aggressive race," quipped SXU head men's track coach Ed McAllister. "It was necessary for him to run considerably faster than he had previously to have a chance for the finals. While he ran with the leaders for the first half of the race, he fell back in the final 1200 meters. I am quite satisfied with his performance and am confident that he will perform as well during the outdoor season."
