Men's Cross Country - Mon, Sep. 25, 2006
Rock Island, Ill. - Paced by junior Steven Bugarin (Chicago, Ill./Washington) for the fifth straight week, the Saint Xavier University cross country team went to Rock Island, Iowa, on Friday, September 22, and took home a 13th place finish (402 points) out of 39 squads in the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational cross country meet hosted by Augustana College. This is one of the largest meets in the Midwest with 450 male runners in attendance. The host Augustana College won the meet with 68 points.

Bugarin finished No. 12 overall in a time of 25:56 on the 8,000-meter course (8K). Next for the Cougars was sophomore Ronald Lavaire (Shelbyville, Ill./Shelbyville) in 48th place with a time of 26:52, freshman Eli Hoffman (Mt. Morris, Ill./Oregon) at No. 154 in 28:42, freshman Manny Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) in 160th with a time of 28:50 and sophomore Maciej Demaj (Lockport, Ill./Reavis) rounded out the team scoring in 180th place in 29:01. Other runners for SXU Friday included freshman John Neisler (Armington, Ill./Olympia) at No. 193 in 29:08 and freshman Matt Miller (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn) in 195th with a time of 29:13. "Steven ran a great, controlled race," remarked Coach Ed McAllister. "He steps up to the talent level each week. Ronald ran well and Manny had a running break-through this weekend. We still have too big a gap from our second runner to our pack, but we have sufficient time to solve this dilemma." The Cougars will stay in town as they travel to Montrose Harbor to take part in the Sean Earl Invitational, hosted by Loyola University on Saturday, September 30. The meet kicks off at 11:30 a.m.
