Olathe, Kan. - With its first game just under four months away, the Saint Xavier University baseball team got some good news Wednesday receiving a No. 12 rating in the 2006 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Baseball Preseason Rating when the league office released the poll this week. Last season, the Cougars finished 39-23 overall, won the 2005 NAIA Region VII Tournament, and qualified for the NAIA Region VII-VIII Super Regional Tournament for the first time ever.
"We definitely have the talent to be one of the top teams in the NAIA this season," said Saint Xavier head baseball coach Mike Dooley. "We could be better than our No. 12 rating or we could be worse. That is why you play the games. From what I have seen during the off-season this fall, the sky is the limit for this group."
Saint Xavier will take its annual 12-day Florida trip in mid-March to kick off its 2006 season. The Cougars begin the trip with a 10 a.m. game (eastern time) against Ohio Dominican College on Saturday, March 11.
