CHICAGO - A goal and four assists by junior forward Lissa Coby (Lake Villa, Ill./Grant Community) helped lift the No. 15 ranked Saint Xavier University women's soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in the quarterfinals of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament Saturday at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. The No. 2 seeded Cougars (15-3 overall/7-2 CCAC) advance to the semifinals and will host the winner of today's No. 3 seed Trinity Christian College (Ill.) and No. 6 seed Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) match-up on Wednesday, October 25, at 2:30 p.m.
An early goal by junior midfielder Natalie Liakopoulos (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn) in the game's second minute put SXU quickly ahead, 1-0. Sophomore forward Ariana Robles (West Chicago, Ill./College of DuPage) and Coby both recorded assists on the opening goal. Robles found the back of the net just over seven minutes later to build Saint Xavier a 2-0 advantage off another assist by Coby. With 25:11 to play in the first half, IIT cut the lead in half on a penalty kick goal by junior midfielder Amy Bourquard.
In the second half, the Cougar offense was able to pull away on three unanswered goals. Junior midfielder Alana LoPresti (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) got it started with a goal in the 51st minute off assists from freshman defender Jessica Martinez (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) and Coby, respectively. After providing the passes for most of the game, Coby got a turn to put a goal on the scoreboard in the 70th minute of play off a pass from sophomore midfielder Sarah Scigalski (Alsip, Ill./Mother McAuley). Sophomore Britney Kendzora (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) wrapped up the game's scoring in the 81st minute with a goal off an assist from Coby. Freshman Danielle Wagner (Worth, Ill./University of Illinois) started in goal Saturday for SXU and finished with four saves.
