CHICAGO – In its last regular season home game of the 2013-14 season, the No. 5 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team stifled a late rally attempt by Roosevelt University (Ill.) to hang on for a 64-56 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) victory Wednesday night on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago.  Junior forward Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers) had the hot hand for SXU logging her 22nd double-double of the season with 21 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks.  Prior to the game, the Cougars (25-4 overall/15-2 CCAC) honored the five seniors on the team in guards Jordan Brandt (Winamac, Ind./Winamac) and Niara Harris (Richton Park, Ill./Robert Morris/Rich South), forwards Chrissy Heine (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) and Dana Sibley (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) and student assistant Ashley Reeves.

Harris also had a nice night for Saint Xavier chipping in 12 points and three rebounds.  Junior guard Suzie Broski (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) was solid as well with eight points and six boards.  The Cougars were tough defensively throughout the game limiting the visiting Lakers to just 29 percent shooting (17-for-58) from the field and helping force 21 RU turnovers off 11 SXU steals.  In fact, Saint Xavier scored 15 of its 64 points off Roosevelt turnovers.  Midway through the first half, the Lakers held a 13-10 advantage, but the Cougars used an 11-0 run spurred by six points from Harris to take a 21-13 lead with just over five minutes to play in the half.  After taking a 29-22 lead into the halftime break, SXU continued to be the aggressor building its lead as high as 14 points at the midpoint of the second half.  The Lakers made a late run closing to within six points in the final two minutes, but key free throws by seniors Harris and Brandt in the closing seconds helped seal the home victory.

Saint Xavier (25-4 overall/15-2 CCAC) closes out its regular season slate on Saturday, February 22, with a road game against Trinity Christian College (Ill.).  The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. tip-off in Palos Heights, Ill.
