Badertscher picks up second straight CCAC award

CHICAGO, Ill. – Saint Xavier freshman goalkeeper Shane Badertscher (Plainfield Central HS / Joliet, Ill.) has claimed his second straight CCAC Defensive Player of the Week award, announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Badertscher totaled four saves on the week, and picked up his second collegiate victory with a 2-1 win over Cornerstone (Mich.) on  Wednesday night. The freshman surrendered two goals in 180 minutes of work last week, and has allowed one goal or fewer in his last three appearances. On the season, Badertscher ranks 6th in the CCAC with a 1.60 goals-against average.

By earning the award, Badertscher becomes the first SXU freshman in eight years to win multiple CCAC Player of the Week awards; goalkeeper Kyle Held was a three-time receipient as a freshman in 2010.

Badertscher and the Cougars face Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday night, September 12, at Deaton Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
