Dubuque, Iowa – Sophomore middle blocker Sam Kull (Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South) and senior middle blocker J.T. O'Connell (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) combined for 19 of the team's 32 kills, but the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team could not slow down the powerful offensive attack of No. 6 ranked Clarke University (Iowa) Tuesday night at the Kehl Center in Dubuque, Iowa. The Cougars (2-11 overall) dropped the match in three sets 25-16, 25-22 and 25-16. The Crusaders racked up 40 kills to just seven attacking errors for an impressive team attack percentage of .458.
Kull led SXU's attack Tuesday with 10 kills and two service aces, while O'Connell posted nine kills and a pair of block assists. Freshman setter Moises Lopez (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) paced the Cougars with 29 assists to go along with three digs and two block assists. Senior right side Jacob Siska (Hometown, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) was a solid contributor for the Cougars as well with four kills, five digs and a block assist.
Saint Xavier (2-11 overall/2-3 GLD) heads to Ohio on Saturday, March 1, for a NAIA Great Lakes Division match against Cincinnati Christian College (Ohio). The match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. (eastern) start.
