CHICAGO – Despite leading the game with 16 total shots and 10 of them on goal, the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team failed to score and fell to Roosevelt University (Ill.), 1-0, in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Saturday afternoon at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. The loss spoiled "Senior Day" for the Cougars, who honored their four seniors, Kyle Held (Palatine, Ill./Palatine), James King (Downers Grove, Ill./College of DuPage/Downers Grove South), Dale Judickas (Hickory Hills, Ill./South Suburban CC/Stagg) and Ramon Diaz II (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence), prior to Saturday's game for their last regular season game at Deaton Field. SXU falls to 7-8-1 overall and 6-3-1 in conference play with the loss.
The Lakers got the game-winning goal in the 69th minute of action when freshman defender Jackson Grueber sent a deep free kick past the entire Saint Xavier defense. Junior midfielder Brandon Simoes (Brampton, Ontario, Canada/Olivet Nazarene University/St. Edmund Campion) led the Cougars offensively with three shots on goal in the game. Held recorded four saves on the day for SXU.
Saint Xavier (7-8-1 overall/6-3-1 CCAC) wraps up its regular season slate on Tuesday, November 5, with a big conference game against Robert Morris University (Ill.). The road game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start in Arlington Heights, Ill. A victory keeps SXU's chances of hosting a first round game in the 2013 CCAC Tournament, which begins next Saturday.
