CHICAGO – Jesse Lopez, a senior shortstop/pitcher at George Washington High School in Chicago, recently signed a letter of intent to continue both his athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar baseball program. The Chicago native comes to SXU as a freshman when he joins the program this fall and will compete for playing time both on the field and the mound during the 2014 season.  Lopez was a first team selection on the 2012 The Times Illinois All-Area Baseball Team following his junior season with the Patriots and earned honorable mention recognition on the 2013 version of the all-area team.  He recently got to pitch at Yankee Stadium in New York as a member of 2013 Chicago Public League All-Star Team.

"Jesse has a great future ahead at Saint Xavier University," said SXU baseball coach Mike Dooley. "He has a big-time arm and unlimited potential.  I can't wait to get him here and on the field, because I strongly believe he will be an impact player for our program."
