No. 7 Saint Xavier Shuts Down IUSB, Advances to CCAC Championship

Milwaukee, Wis. - Sophomore guard Jack Krieger (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) had the hot hand sinking three three-pointers en route to a game-best 15 points in leading the No. 7 ranked and No. 2 seeded Saint Xavier University men's basketball team to a convincing 64-46 victory over No. 3 seed Indiana University-South Bend (IUSB) in the semifinals of the 2013 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Basketball Tournament at Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) Friday night in Milwaukee, Wis. The Cougars (28-4 overall) have won 17 straight games, the longest win streak for the program since the team started the 1988-89 season with a 17-0 record. SXU advances to Saturday's CCAC Tournament Championship and faces No. 2 ranked and No. 1 seed Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) at 3 p.m. in Milwaukee.

Senior point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) finished the night with 13 points and five assists for the Cougars, while junior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) chipped in 11 points and team-best nine rebounds. Saint Xavier shot an impressive 55 percent (12-for-22) from the field in the first half to help build a 34-20 halftime advantage. The game was tied 12-12 with 11:24 left to play in the first frame when a jumper by Krieger sparked an 11-2 run that gave SXU the lead for good. A three-pointer by Krieger to open the second half sparked another run that helped the Cougars extend the lead to 20 points and SXU was able to maintain the big lead the rest of the way.

Saint Xavier (28-4 overall/22-2 CCAC) looks to keep its win streak intact on Saturday, February 23, in the CCAC Tournament Championship. The Cougars take on No. 2 ranked and No. 1 seed Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) in the title game at 3 p.m. in Milwaukee. The Cougars handed the host Wolves their only conference loss of the season with a 66-62 victory in Milwaukee back on January 19. The win snapped a 19-game home win streak for Cardinal Stritch and also ended a 35-game conference win streak for the Wolves.
